Write a letter of support to Governor Deval Patrick

The Commutation Working Group is compiling all letters and petition signatories into a packet that will be presented to the Governor and his team. Your letter may be mailed directly to the governor and a copy sent to Attorney Edward Berkin (addresses below), or you may choose to mail it only to Arnie's attorney who will include the letter within the packet. Either way, please address the letter to the Governor.

Tips on writing a letter

If you would like to write a letter but are not sure how to begin, start by asking Governor Deval Patrick to approve Arnie's commutation of sentence providing him the opportunity to prove himself worthy of parole release from the Parole Board. Follow it up with a few points you find important that support your request. If you know and have even worked with Mr. King, specify how you know him, how long you've known him, and in what type of work you were engaged whether it was through volunteer work or through a support group. You may also point out that Mr. King has been involved with many youth programs over the years and plans to continue that work within the community once he is released on parole.

It is important to understand that a commutation of sentence is not a direct release from prison. Arnie is merely requesting that his sentence be commuted from Life Without Parole to Life With the Eligibility of Parole so that he may be provided the opportunity to prove himself worthy of Parole Release from the Parole Board and rejoin the community.
